The story of the Qantu Chocolate Factory began ten years ago when two young travellers, Elfi and Maxim, visited Cusco in Peru.
Elfi and Maxim began to discover the flavours of the local delicious cocoa on the Alto El Sol plantation in northern Peru. All of their experiences on that first trip would become very much a part of their subsequent lives. They discovered the bean to bar chocolate world, artisan chocolate makers, craft chocolate makers and it was a whole new world for them. In the summer of 2016, their chocolate dream became a reality and QANTU started making chocolate. Immediately in the first year, the only three bars they produced won medals from the Academy of Chocolate, two gold and one silver.
And why the name QANTU? The name has a personal depth for Elfi and Maxim that can be found throughout their chocolate-adventurous lives. QANTU is a symbol of togetherness and hospitality, the name of the national flower in Peru and Bolivia. The word comes from the vocabulary of the indigenous people of the Peruvian Andes Quechua and is pronounced "Kantu" in the original language.
